Everyone gets in
Accessibility statement
This site is built to be usable by everyone in National City, including neighbors who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification or voice control.
Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Accessibility is part of how we build each page, not a cleanup pass at the end.
What we build in
- A "skip to main content" link as the first thing keyboard users reach.
- Full keyboard operation, with a clearly visible focus outline on every control.
- Real headings, landmarks and lists so screen readers can navigate structure.
- Text and interface colors tested for AA contrast against their backgrounds.
- Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images.
- Form labels tied to their inputs, with errors announced, not just colored red.
- Text that reflows and stays readable when zoomed to 200% or on a phone.
- Reduced motion honored when your device asks for it.
- Data tables with captions and proper header cells.
- Link text that makes sense out of context — no bare "click here".
Known limitations
Some content comes from other people: business websites we link to, embedded YouTube videos, photos submitted by neighbors, and live data from government sources. We can't control the accessibility of those third-party pages and players, but we will always describe embedded content in text and add alternative text to submitted photos.
Accessible businesses in our directory
If your National City business has step-free entry, accessible restrooms, accessible parking, braille menus, ASL-capable staff or anything else worth knowing, tell us and we'll note it on your listing so neighbors can plan ahead.
